What is ipamorelin?

Ipamorelin is a five-amino-acid peptide that acts on the ghrelin receptor (GHS-R1a) to release growth hormone. Novo Nordisk developed it in the 1990s.

What made it stand out was selectivity. Older GHRPs also raised cortisol, ACTH and prolactin. This one mostly didn’t.

Ipamorelin research findings

Raun and colleagues reported in 1998 that it released growth hormone in pigs and rats as strongly as GHRP-6, without raising ACTH or cortisol even at high doses. Later rat studies looked at bone growth and gut motility.

Helsinn tested it in phase II trials for bowel problems after surgery, but it didn’t reach approval. Search the work on PubMed.

Measuring and storage

It ships as a freeze-dried (lyophilized) powder in a sealed sterile glass vial. Before reconstitution, keep vials in the fridge at 2 to 8°C, or in the freezer for longer storage, away from light.

To reconstitute, let the vial reach room temperature, then add sterile diluent slowly down the side of the glass. Swirl gently and don’t shake it. As an example, adding 2 mL to a 5 mg vial gives 2.5 mg/mL, so every 0.1 mL holds 250 mcg. Write the date and volume on the vial.

Once mixed, keep it refrigerated and use it within the window your protocol allows. Most labs avoid repeated freezing and thawing of reconstituted peptide, because it can break the chains down.
