What is GHRP-6?
GHRP-6 is a six-amino-acid peptide that Cyril Bowers and colleagues described in the early 1980s. It was found before ghrelin itself, and research on it helped lead to the discovery of the ghrelin receptor.
It acts on GHS-R1a and releases growth hormone strongly. It also raises appetite a lot, which is its best-known side effect. That hunger signal is the reason some appetite and gut motility labs still choose it over newer peptides.
GHRP-6 research history
Early human studies found it released growth hormone in a dose-dependent way and worked well alongside GHRH. Animal research has since looked at heart protection, gut healing and appetite, with several papers on cardioprotection after injury in rats and pigs.

Measuring and storage
It ships as a freeze-dried (lyophilized) powder in a sealed sterile glass vial. Before reconstitution, keep vials in the fridge at 2 to 8°C, or in the freezer for longer storage, away from light.
To reconstitute, let the vial reach room temperature, then add sterile diluent slowly down the side of the glass. Swirl gently and don’t shake it. As an example, adding 2 mL to a 5 mg vial gives 2.5 mg/mL, so every 0.1 mL holds 250 mcg. Write the date and volume on the vial.
Once mixed, keep it refrigerated and use it within the window your protocol allows. Most labs avoid repeated freezing and thawing of reconstituted peptide, because it can break the chains down.
