What is MK-677 powder?
Ibutamoren (MK-677) is an oral growth hormone secretagogue created by Merck. It acts like ghrelin at the GHS-R1a receptor and prompts the pituitary to release growth hormone, which in turn raises IGF-1.
It isn’t a peptide and it isn’t a SARM. It’s a small molecule with a long half-life, which is why it was studied as a once-daily oral compound.
MK-677 powder research history
Merck tested MK-677 in several human studies in the 1990s and 2000s. A two-year trial in adults aged 60 to 81 found 25 mg a day brought IGF-1 into the young adult range and raised fat-free mass. A 1998 study in young men on a calorie-restricted diet found it reversed protein loss.
Side effects reported in those trials included hunger, mild fluid retention and raised blood sugar. MK-677 was never approved. The studies are listed on PubMed.
