What is liquid ibutamoren?
Ibutamoren (MK-677, also called L-163,191) is a non-peptide growth hormone secretagogue developed by Merck in the 1990s. It mimics ghrelin and binds the GHS-R1a receptor, which tells the pituitary to release growth hormone. Unlike most secretagogues, it’s active when taken orally and has a long half-life.
Because it works through the ghrelin receptor, ibutamoren raises growth hormone and IGF-1 without acting on the androgen receptor.
Liquid ibutamoren and growth hormone research
In a two-year trial of healthy adults aged 60 to 81, 25 mg a day of MK-677 raised IGF-1 levels to those typical of young adults and increased fat-free mass. Another study in healthy young men on a calorie-restricted diet found it reversed the expected drop in nitrogen balance.
