RAD-140 research guide: Testolone, explained (Sports Technology Labs blog)

Testolone (RAD-140) is one of the strongest non-steroidal SARMs in our catalog. Radius Health developed it around 2010, and it has been studied in rats, monkeys and a small human cancer trial.

What is RAD-140?

Testolone binds the androgen receptor with a Ki of about 7 nM, stronger than testosterone in the same assays. Like other SARMs, it’s designed to act mainly on muscle and bone, with less effect on tissues like the prostate. It’s active orally, and its reported half-life is about 44.7 hours.

RAD-140 research in animals

The first major paper, from Miller and colleagues in 2011, showed testolone built muscle in rats and young male monkeys with limited effect on the prostate. In the rat work, 3 mg/kg of testolone matched the muscle effect of 1 mg/kg of testosterone with about half the prostate effect.

Later rat studies found it protected neurons in the hippocampus, and cell work found it slowed the growth of AR+/ER+ breast cancer cells. The studies are searchable on PubMed.

RAD-140 in human research

Radius ran a phase I trial in women with advanced AR+/ER+ breast cancer, completed in 2020. Some participants had raised liver enzymes. There are no completed trials in healthy people, and it isn’t approved by the FDA.

RAD-140 safety notes

Published studies report suppression of natural testosterone, and case reports have linked testolone to liver injury. Researchers planning work with it should account for both.

RAD-140 vs RAD-150

RAD-150 is testolone with a benzoate ester attached, meant to extend its half-life. The parent compound has far more published research behind it.

Where to buy RAD-140

Sports Technology Labs sells liquid RAD-140 (testolone) at 15 mg/mL in a 30 mL glass dropper bottle and RAD-140 powder in a 2 gram pouch. Every batch is tested by MZ Biolabs before it’s listed.

Testolone also appears in the RAD-140 and MK-677 stack, the RAD-140 and Cardarine stack and the RAD-140 and LGD-4033 stack.

Storing liquid and powder testolone

Liquids from Sports Technology Labs are dissolved in USP-grade PEG-400 and bottled in UV-resistant glass with a glass dropper fixed into the cap. Keep the bottle upright, tightly capped and out of direct sunlight. Room temperature is fine, and there’s no need to refrigerate. If a bottle gets cold in transit and looks cloudy, let it warm to room temperature and swirl it gently.

Powder ships in a resealable foil pouch. Measuring tools aren’t included, so you’ll need an analytical balance that reads to at least 1 mg. Most labs dissolve it in PEG-400, the same carrier we use for our liquids. Reseal the pouch straight after use and store it somewhere cool, dry and dark.

How to read the COA

Each product page lists the purity and the COA date. Purity is the share of the target compound found by HPLC. The date tells you when that batch was tested. Most listings also show the certificate and the chromatogram in the image gallery, and we’ll email the full document if you ask. A single tall peak at the expected retention time is what you want to see. Small extra peaks are impurities, and the purity figure accounts for them.

RAD-140 FAQ

Is RAD-140 the same as testolone?

Yes. They’re two names for the same compound.

Does testolone suppress testosterone?

Yes. Suppression has been reported in studies, so plan for it.

Is it approved for any use?

No. It’s an investigational compound sold for research only.
