Cardarine (GW-501516) is sold next to SARMs, but it isn’t one. It’s a PPAR-delta agonist that GlaxoSmithKline developed for metabolic disease. This guide covers what Cardarine (GW-501516) does in research, its safety history and where to buy it.
In this guide
What is Cardarine (GW-501516)?
GW-501516, also called GW1516 or Endurobol, activates PPAR-delta, a nuclear receptor that switches on genes for fat transport and fat burning in muscle, liver and heart tissue. It doesn’t bind the androgen receptor, so it has no direct effect on testosterone. Its reported half-life is 16 to 24 hours.
Cardarine research findings
Rodent studies found GW-501516 pushed muscle toward burning fat instead of glucose. A 2008 Cell paper found that GW-501516 combined with exercise training raised running endurance in mice by roughly 70%. In obese rhesus monkeys, it raised HDL cholesterol and lowered LDL and triglycerides.
You can read the studies on PubMed.
Cardarine safety history
GSK dropped development around 2007 after long-term rodent studies found cancers in several organs at high doses. WADA bans it, and it isn’t approved by the FDA. We think that history belongs in any guide to Cardarine.
Cardarine vs SR-9009
Both are studied for fat metabolism and endurance, but through different receptors. SR-9009 activates REV-ERB, which links the body clock to metabolism. Cardarine works through PPAR-delta.
Where to buy Cardarine (GW-501516)
Sports Technology Labs sells liquid Cardarine at 20 mg/mL in a 30 mL glass dropper bottle and Cardarine powder in a 2 gram pouch. The current batch tested at 99.57% purity with MZ Biolabs.
Cardarine is in several of our stacks, including the Ostarine and Cardarine stack, the SR-9009 and Cardarine stack and the RAD-140 and Cardarine stack.
Storing liquid and powder GW-501516
Liquids from Sports Technology Labs are dissolved in USP-grade PEG-400 and bottled in UV-resistant glass with a glass dropper fixed into the cap. Keep the bottle upright, tightly capped and out of direct sunlight. Room temperature is fine, and there’s no need to refrigerate. If a bottle gets cold in transit and looks cloudy, let it warm to room temperature and swirl it gently.
Powder ships in a resealable foil pouch. Measuring tools aren’t included, so you’ll need an analytical balance that reads to at least 1 mg. Most labs dissolve it in PEG-400, the same carrier we use for our liquids. Reseal the pouch straight after use and store it somewhere cool, dry and dark.
How to read the COA
Each product page lists the purity and the COA date. Purity is the share of the target compound found by HPLC. The date tells you when that batch was tested. Most listings also show the certificate and the chromatogram in the image gallery, and we’ll email the full document if you ask. A single tall peak at the expected retention time is what you want to see. Small extra peaks are impurities, and the purity figure accounts for them.
Cardarine (GW-501516) FAQ
Is Cardarine a SARM?
No. It’s a PPAR-delta agonist that’s often studied with SARMs.
Does Cardarine affect testosterone?
It doesn’t act on the androgen receptor, so it isn’t expected to.
Why is Cardarine paired with SARMs?
Because it works on a separate pathway, researchers can study its effects alongside an androgen receptor ligand without overlap.
